8. 7. 2011 Successful open day at Riko Hiše
Building in wood is becoming more and more attractive for Slovene customers as well. This is the impression we got due to the large number of visitors at the opening day of Riko hiše who showed great interest in the Riko wooden construction system.
From 12 a.m., Riko’s experts were at the disposal of our visitors explaining to them the types of wood, our tradition of woodcraft and wood processing, as well as the construction processes for a house built by Riko with all of its qualities. An expert for eco loans from the Sparkasse bank was also available to the interested visitors. At the opening day, we also presented our project Starck with Riko.
The afternoon program was intended for all those who wanted to experience our production halls with their typical scent of wood in a different way. For this occasion, we changed them into a social meeting point where our visitors could enjoy Life catering eco food and Istenič sparkling wines – and also transformed them into a lecture hall where specialist lecturers presented their projects and experience in wooden constructions. The afternoon program was spiced up by the well-known Radio Mlajku theatre group from Ribnica.
In the village of Hrovača – very close to the company Riko Hiše – our visitors were able to have a look at the wooden barn within the Škrabec homestead complex, as well as an apartment house built according to the Riko wooden construction system.
Many architects attended our open day, but also mayors and visitors from abroad. We were particularly honoured by the visit of the Slovene minister of the environment and spatial planning, Prof. Dr. Roko Žarnić.

Oh this day our production hall became a class room, a play room, a meeting point and much more. We took great care to make it informative and inspiring.
We are happy about the fact that the Slovenes are increasingly becoming aware of the significance of low-energy and healthy building types. It is with great satisfaction that we have presented the Riko construction system to a larger audience.
And we did not forget the youngest either. After all, they will surely experience wood as a building material. And therefore we were glad to prepare a playful experience of wood for them.
Culinary-wise, we were spoilt by Life catering, who observe ecological guidelines in their culinary offer. With their holistic approach and excellent offer of eco delicacies spiced up with creativity, Life catering provided a true culinary experience in our company Riko hiše.
Vila Istenič sparkling wines provided some refreshment for this summer day. With their absence of formality they blended in with the relaxed atmosphere on this open day at Riko hiše. Their speciality is sparkling wines for beautiful summer days. We enjoyed them in wine flutes with four ice cubes and a peppermint leaf.
The relaxed atmosphere was livened up by the famous Radio Mlajku theatre group from Ribnica. The audience quickly came to know the latest gossip about the Škrabec family, the company Riko hiše, and also what the Minister had come for to the opening day at Riko hiše.
The audience was first welcomed by the minister of the environment and spatial planning of the Republic of Slovenia, Prof. Dr. Roko Žarnić, after which specialists and promoters of wooden constructions presented interesting aspects of building in wood. Dr. Manja Kitek Kuzman, architect and lecturer at the Department of forestry and wood management of the Biotechnical Faculty, expert for wooden constructions, presented wood in modern architecture. Later the architects Prof. Janez Koželj and Jure Kotnik demonstrated the value of wooden constructions using the example of the Jelka and Kekec kindergartens (investor: Municipality of the city of Ljubljana).
