One of the most colourful Ljubljana kindergartens

The
addition was constructed according to the designs of architectJure
Kotnik,
who wanted to provide interactivity to children through its
innovative wooden façade, as well as to stimulate their imagination,
give them new possibilities for creative playing and learning, and
put them in direct contact with colours and wood as a warm and
natural material. The architect said this about the use of wood as
the basic material: “Wood is a material that is especially suitable
for kindergartens. It is natural and pleasant to the touch and, of
all materials, wood best conjures up that homely feeling, which is
important for children when they have to leave the safety of their
homes to spend time in a different environment. Living in wooden
buildings is comfortable, healthy and also environmentally
friendly.”
Although
wooden kindergartens are still relatively rare in Slovenia, abroad the construction of wooden kindergartens has many advocates,
in particular because of its environmental friendliness and better
quality of living provided by the wooden building, but primarily
because of the exceptional adaptability and speed of construction.
Thus, a wooden kindergarten can be built in as little as four months.
Considering the increasing needs for Slovene kindergartens, there is
probably no need to emphasise that wooden construction is certainly
one of the most interesting solutions for many local environments.
