Wood in the City in Trieste

Wood in the City in Trieste

Due to its excellent construction qualities and ecological properties, wood is considered the most energy efficient building material and is increasingly used in coastal areas as well. There is a growing awareness among investors and architects that choosing wood also implies opting for sustainability and a future fit environment. In the hinterland of Trieste, we at Riko hiše have erected several wooden buildings which are admired not least because they blend in with the specific natural and cultural landscape. We are especially proud of the wooden extension of the MIB School of Management in the city centre of Trieste. The renowned MIB School of Management has become an excellent promoter of sustainability in architecture and civil engineering because it has chosen wood as a construction material.
As the investor in the wooden extension of the Kekec kindergarten designed by architect Jure Kotnik and realized by Riko hiše, the City Municipality of Ljubljana is also aware of its responsibility to promote sustainable building practices. At the Wood in the City conference, Jure Kotnik will present his architectural vision that he translated into the extension of the Kekec kindergarten.
The principal organizer of the conference is Promo legno in cooperation with the Department of Wood Science and Technology at the Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Ljubljana, the Museum of Architecture and Design, the “Faculta di Ingegneria Civile e Architettura – Universita Udine”, the “Gradevinski fakultet Rijeka”, and the “Dipartimento die Ingegneria Civile e Architettura – Universita Trieste”.
